CRRC Ziyang’s Historic Shipment of Diesel Locomotives to Mozambique

CRRC Ziyang Co. shipped three internal combustion locomotives to Mozambique on March 10, marking a first for a Chinese company in the region. On March 10, CRRC Ziyang Co. officially shipped three internal combustion locomotives to Mozambique, marking the first instance of a Chinese company supplying such locomotives to the Mozambican railway network. The locomotives are part of a new initiative by CRRC Ziyang, a subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited, aimed at re-entering the African market with tailored products for local conditions.

The SDD1 diesel locomotives are specially designed to meet the operational demands of African environments. CRRC Ziyang’s technical team incorporated various innovations including a lightweight optimization design, an advanced cooling system, a new corrugated louver structure, and a modular air intake unit. Furthermore, the locomotives are equipped with an intelligent control system that allows for real-time monitoring and enhanced operational reliability.

This batch of SDD1 locomotives is intended for passenger and freight shunting operations, thereby bolstering local railway logistics in Mozambique. CRRC Ziyang has a rich history in the African railway sector, having delivered over 230 locomotives across nearly 20 countries over the past 24 years.

As a prominent player in China’s diesel locomotive exports, CRRC Ziyang has supplied more than 1,200 locomotives to 34 nations globally. This achievement accounts for over 50% of China’s total diesel locomotive exports, underscoring the company’s leadership in this sector.

The inaugural shipment of SDD1 diesel locomotives by CRRC Ziyang to Mozambique heralds a significant milestone in Chinese railway exports.
