Missing College Student Sudiksha Konanki’s Parents Seek Declaration of Death

Sudiksha Konanki’s parents are requesting authorities to declare their daughter deceased after she went missing in the Dominican Republic on March 6. Joshua Riibe, a person of interest, was the last seen with her, but no charges have been filed. As investigations continue, Konanki’s family seeks closure amid an ongoing search for her body.

The parents of Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old college student missing since March 6 in the Dominican Republic, have requested authorities to declare their daughter deceased after 11 days of searching. Konanki vanished while walking on the beach at Riu Republica Resort during a trip with friends. A representative from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the family sought this declaration for closure following their daughter’s disappearance.

Joshua Riibe, 24, identified as a person of interest, is believed to be the last to see Konanki before she went missing. He has not faced any charges nor been accused of a crime. Konanki, who is an Indian citizen, was part of a group of six female students from the University of Pittsburgh.

In a letter sent to Dominican authorities, Konanki’s parents acknowledged they understood necessary legal processes for their request and indicated their willingness to comply with any required formalities. They emphasized there was “no suspicion of foul play” concerning their daughter’s presumed death, according to sources reported by ABC News.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the family met with them expressing gratitude for the ongoing investigation. Furthermore, reports indicated that Konanki’s clothing was discovered on a chaise lounge on the beach, but no signs of violence were detected.

Footage shows Konanki walking onto the beach at 4:15 a.m. with friends. It is believed that, after most departed, she remained with another individual when she allegedly drowned after being caught by a large wave, an assertion that has not been conclusively established. The investigation remains active, with coordination between U.S. law enforcement and Dominican authorities as they continue searching for Konanki’s body.

The tragic circumstance surrounding Sudiksha Konanki’s disappearance has prompted her parents to formally request a declaration of death from authorities in the Dominican Republic, aiming to find closure. As investigations continue, the involvement of Joshua Riibe as a person of interest raises further questions, though no foul play is suspected as of now. The search efforts and corresponding investigations underscore the complexity of such cases in foreign territories, emphasizing the collaboration between U.S. and Dominican law enforcement agencies.
