U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a Brazilian fugitive in Everett, Massachusetts, who is wanted for armed robbery in Brazil. The apprehended individual, a 38-year-old male, was taken into custody on January 22. Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, emphasized that the fugitive posed a significant threat to public safety and declared that ICE Boston is dedicated to preventing New England from becoming a sanctuary for criminals.
The fugitive had previously been apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol on October 15, 2020, after entering the United States illegally. Following an order to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge, he was returned to Mexico the next day. However, he re-entered the country illegally on April 2, 2021, and was subsequently released on bond by an immigration judge on September 27, 2021.
An arrest warrant for the fugitive was issued by Brazilian authorities on May 20, 2024, concerning armed robbery, an offense punishable by up to 16 years in prison. Currently, the individual remains in ICE custody after his latest arrest.
