On April 4, at approximately 12:00 PM, an incident involving a firearm occurred at the Adventist Senior High School in the Ashanti Region, prompting an investigation by local police. Preliminary findings suggest that a 16-year-old second-year student brought a locally made pistol, specifically loaded with BB ammunition, to school. The student inadvertently discharged the weapon while attempting to show it to a peer, resulting in injury to another student.
The police report, issued by Deputy Superintendent Mr. Godwin Atsu Ahianyo, indicates that the name of the injured student is being withheld for privacy reasons. Following the incident, the injured individual received medical attention at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition.
In connection with the investigation, the student suspected of bringing the weapon has been apprehended, and law enforcement has recovered the empty cartridge as evidence. During interrogation, the suspect claimed he had retrieved the firearm from his father’s bedroom without parental permission.
