The NDLEA has arrested Lagos businessman Arokodare Damil Ebenezer for importing cannabis from the US, with 32.24 kilograms of illegal substances seized. Additional operations led to the arrest of another suspect at the airport and several others in Katsina, highlighting the agency’s commitment to combat drug trafficking. In recent months, NDLEA’s drug enforcement activities have intensified, leading to multiple successful seizures.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Arokodare Damil Ebenezer, a Lagos businessman and owner of Damillionz Takeout, for allegedly importing cannabis into Nigeria from the United States. The arrest occurred at the Bay Lounge in Lekki, where the 43-year-old suspect was awaiting the delivery of 60 parcels of “Loud,” a high-potency cannabis strain.
Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesperson, stated that the arrest followed the earlier interception of seven large cartons of the illicit substance at a Lagos logistics company on March 12. A subsequent search at Ebenezer’s residence yielded an additional 94 grams of “Loud,” a cannabis crusher, and other items related to drug use, bringing the total seizure to 32.24 kilograms.
Ebenezer reportedly confessed to being involved in drug trafficking since 2017. The agency’s statement detailed the cargo’s seizure as part of an ongoing effort to combat drug-related crimes in Nigeria.
In additional operations, another suspect, Omoruyi Terry, was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport for attempting to smuggle 1,400 tramadol pills weighing 800 grams to Italy. Furthermore, four individuals were detained in Katsina for possessing vast amounts of compressed skunk and diazepam pills, showcasing the agency’s vigilance in tackling drug trafficking.
NDLEA also reported the destruction of 13,198 kilograms of cannabis sativa during operations in Edo state, alongside multiple seizures across other regions, including Niger and Enugu states. This surge in enforcement reflects NDLEA’s proactive stance in addressing drug trafficking within the country, amidst recent similar arrests of drug traffickers in various locations.
The recent arrest of Arokodare Damil Ebenezer highlights the NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking in Nigeria. With substantial quantities of illicit substances seized and multiple arrests made, including those of other traffickers, the agency demonstrates its effectiveness in addressing this pressing issue. Continued vigilance and proactive measures are essential to mitigate the drug menace in Nigeria.
