In light of the ongoing rainy weather, meteorological forecasts indicate that areas in Saudi Arabia will continue experiencing precipitation until the Eid Al Fitr festival. The Eid is projected to commence on March 29, following the holy month of Ramadan.
Aqeel Al Aqeel, a weather analyst from the Saudi National Centre for Meteorology (NCM), noted that these weather conditions, which commenced at the beginning of Ramadan, are expected to persist through Eid. He specifically highlighted the anticipation of moderate to heavy rainfall affecting the central and eastern highlands as well as Mecca.
The NCM has issued alerts regarding potential thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds that could reduce visibility across seven regions starting Sunday. Thunderstorms, coupled with hail and active winds, are predicted to impact the Eastern Province, Riyadh, Najran, Jizan, Asir, Al Baha, and Mecca.
Additionally, strong winds may lead to sandstorms in parts of Al Qassim and Medina, and along the coastal regions of Tabuk. Recently, parts of western Saudi Arabia, including Mecca, experienced substantial rainfall over the weekend, with authorities sharing footage of pilgrims at the Grand Mosque continuing their rites despite the adverse weather conditions.
Moreover, the port city of Jeddah faced severe downpours last week, resulting in significant flooding. Social media footage depicted flash floods occurring northeast of Jeddah in the aftermath of the torrential rains.
The continuation of rainy weather in Saudi Arabia is anticipated to affect various regions until Eid Al Fitr, with considerable rainfall expected. The NCM has issued warnings for thunderstorms and visibility issues in several areas, underscoring the potential impact of this weather on local activities and conditions.
