The family of kidnapped retired director Emmanuel Ofobrukueta has requested the intervention of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for his immediate rescue. After being abducted on January 13 while heading to collect his pension, the victim has been missing for two months, despite the payment of a ransom and ongoing efforts by both the police and family.
The family of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, a retired director abducted in Delta State, has reached out to Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for immediate assistance in securing his rescue. Frank Tietie, the Principal Partner of Forthright Chambers and legal representative for the family, made this plea during a news conference in Abuja, following the submission of a formal petition to the I-G regarding the incident.
Ofobrukueta, who had spent six years in retirement from the Post-Primary Education Board in Asaba, Delta, was kidnapped by armed attackers on January 13 while leaving his home in Mosogar, Delta State. Notably, he was targeted on the day he intended to travel to Asaba to process his pension payment.
Tietie stated that Ofobrukueta has now endured two months in captivity, despite attempts by the Delta State Police Command to secure his release. He emphasized the emotional toll on the victim’s family, who initially resorted to self-help measures, including hiring a private tracking firm for assistance in his rescue.
A ransom totaling N4,020,000 was reportedly paid to the kidnappers, conveyed through individuals who offered to deliver the funds. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, Ofobrukueta remains unaccounted for and there has been no communication from either him or his captors since the ransom was delivered.
In conclusion, the persistent abduction of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta has raised urgent concerns regarding the effectiveness of law enforcement in kidnapping cases in Nigeria. The family’s appeals to both the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Government underscore the necessity for a thorough and immediate investigation. Moreover, the case highlights the critical need for enhanced cooperation among authorities to ensure the safety and rescue of kidnapping victims across the nation.
