Revolt Motors is expanding its electric motorcycle exports to Nepal after entering Sri Lanka last year. The company aims to penetrate additional markets in Africa, South-East Asia, and West Asia, with plans for assembly plants in Mexico and Africa. A partnership with MV Dugar Group will facilitate establishing showrooms in major Nepali cities, highlighting the strategic importance of the market for sustainable transport.
Revolt Motors, having established its presence in Sri Lanka last year, is now set to export electric motorcycles to Nepal. The company plans to expand into three additional countries in Africa, South-East Asia, and West Asia within the next fiscal year, as stated by Anjali Rattan, Chairperson of RattanIndia Enterprises, the promoter of Revolt Motors. Revolt also aims to export to Mexico at a later date and intends to establish assembly plants in various markets, including Africa and Mexico.
In Nepal, approximately 1.7 lakh units of two-wheelers were sold in 2024, with electric vehicle penetration below 4 percent. Scooters represent around 37 percent of total sales, dominated largely by Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), who control nearly 45 percent of the scooter market share. Rattan emphasized the popularity of Indian products in Nepal, which makes the introduction of their electric motorcycles timely and strategic.
Revolt’s full product lineup, including the RV400, RV400 BRZ, RV1, RV1+, and RV BlazeX, will be available, complemented by a thorough after-sales service network. The collaboration with the MV Dugar Group will culminate in the opening of a flagship Revolt Hub in Kathmandu in April, followed by the launch of 15 additional showrooms over three to four months across major cities.
The strategic significance of Nepal is underlined by its commitment to clean energy and the increasing demand for sustainable transportation. Revolt Motors recognizes Nepal’s unique topography, where motorcycles are the preferred transportation mode, thus presenting an exciting opportunity for the brand. An initial annual volume target of 500 units is set for Nepal, with the first shipment expected this week.
Regarding the company’s manufacturing capabilities, Rattan noted that the existing plant in Manesar, Haryana has a capacity of 180,000 units per annum, which currently suffices the present production of about 35,000 units annually. The company reported a domestic market performance, selling 760 motorcycles in February—marking a 58 percent growth from 480 units sold in February of the previous year. Additionally, Revolt Motors is exploring the possibility of setting up new facilities in the South Indian states of Tamil Nadu or Karnataka within the next 18 months.
Other electric two-wheeler manufacturers, such as Ather, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motor, and Ultraviolet, are also participating in exports to neighboring countries, enhancing the overall market competitiveness.
