The Moroccan weather office has warned of strong rains and snowfall from Monday to Wednesday. Key provinces like Taourirt and Figuig will experience substantial rainfall, while cold temperatures are expected. The rains are beneficial for agriculture, which has struggled with drought, as the Agriculture Ministry supports farmers heading into the new season.
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange level alert for several provinces in Morocco, anticipating strong rain and snowfall. From Monday at midnight to Tuesday morning, rainfall of 35 to 50 millimeters is expected in Taourirt, Figuig, Guercif, Boulemane, Errachidia, Tinghir, and Midelt. Additionally, a rainfall of 25 to 30 millimeters will affect Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Sefrou, Taza, Beni Mellal, Azilal, M’diq-Fnideq, and Fahs-Anjra from Monday morning to late evening.
Snowfall is predicted in Boulemane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, and Midelt starting midnight on Monday until Tuesday morning. Moreover, the forecast indicates cold temperatures ranging from -3 to 3 degrees Celsius from Monday through Wednesday in regions such as Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Midelt, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Boulemane, and Ifrane.
The recent rains bring welcome relief to Morocco’s agricultural sector, which has faced difficulties due to prolonged drought and water scarcity. Agriculture Minister Ahmed El Bouari launched the new agricultural season over the weekend, focusing on initiatives to aid farmers amidst these challenges, including rising costs and limited water availability.
The Agriculture Ministry plans to cultivate 5 million hectares, distributing approximately 1.26 million quintals of certified seeds, primarily for autumn cereals. These seeds are priced 3-5% lower than the previous year in an effort to encourage their usage among farmers.
In summary, Morocco is set to experience significant rain and snowfall across various provinces, providing much-needed support to its agricultural sector following years of drought. The government’s initiatives will aid farmers by improving access to essential resources as they prepare for the new agricultural season.
