Lisa Field Announces Candidacy for State Representative Seat

Lisa Field, a Democrat from Taunton and associate director for the Massachusetts Nurses Association, is running for the state representative seat formerly held by Carol Doherty. Field is motivated by her personal experiences and aims to support families facing challenges. The special election will occur following primaries on May 13.

Lisa Field, a Democrat from Taunton, has announced her candidacy for the state representative seat previously held by the late Carol Doherty. Working as an associate director for the Massachusetts Nurses Association, Field aims to continue Doherty’s legacy of public service. “My dear friend Carol Doherty was a true public servant. She left behind a legacy for us to build upon and I plan to do exactly that,” Field remarked in her press statement.

The 3rd Bristol District represents parts of Taunton and Easton, including specific precincts in both areas. Following Doherty’s passing on February 15 due to pancreatic cancer, a special election was announced for her seat on March 10. Field is recognized for co-founding Clean Air Taunton, an initiative opposing a proposed biosolids processing facility in Taunton.

Reflecting on her motivations for running, Field stated, “I know what families in Taunton and Easton are going through because I’ve lived it: family and friends struggling with substance-use, and the crushing weight of rising costs of living — even losing my home.” She expressed her commitment to representing everyday families, saying, “While many politicians are in it for personal gain, I’m running for State Representative to make sure everyday families have someone in their corner.”

Taunton City Councilor Chris Coute has also declared his candidacy as a Republican competitor for the representative seat. The deadline for candidates to pull papers is April 1. The primaries are scheduled for May 13, with the general election following on June 10.

Carol Doherty, who passed away at the age of 82, had recently been re-elected for a third two-year term, having first entered the legislature in 2020 through a special election. She previously served multiple terms on the Taunton School Committee, highlighting her extensive public service record.

In summary, Lisa Field is vying for the state representative seat left vacant by the late Carol Doherty. Field’s personal experiences drive her commitment to serve and advocate for the needs of families in Taunton and Easton. The upcoming special election, with primaries on May 13 and the general election on June 10, will determine who will carry forward Doherty’s legacy in the Massachusetts legislature.
