On March 18, 2025, clashes in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals. Security sources reported that in the Southwest region, suspected separatist fighters targeted a taxi in Buea, leading to the deaths of two passengers. According to a security official, “The incident happened by 7:00 PM (1800 GMT) this Monday. The men were driving when the terrorist separatists shot at close range.”

Meanwhile, in the Northwest region, government forces executed a raid on a separatist hideout in Baba 1, killing three separatist fighters and successfully rescuing six hostages held inside. Local police confirmed these developments, indicating heightened military presence in response to increased separatist activities.

The conflict in these regions has persisted since 2017, as armed separatists seek to establish an independent nation, leading to ongoing clashes with government forces. As a response to the rise in separatist raids, the army is set to deploy additional troops to the affected areas.

In summary, the recent clashes in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions highlight the ongoing violence related to separatist movements. The fatalities resulting from attacks in Buea, coupled with the successful rescue operation by government forces in Baba 1, underscore the fragile security situation. This development signifies an urgent need for enhanced military presence as the conflict continues to escalate since its inception in 2017.
