The U.S. strikes reportedly resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians in the capital, Sanaa, and 11 others in Saada, a Houthi stronghold, including four children and one woman. A local resident described the explosions as being so intense that they felt like an earthquake, inducing fear among families in the vicinity.
The Houthi political bureau denounced the strikes as a “war crime, ” asserting that Yemeni armed forces are ready to respond vigorously to any escalation. Moreover, Trump invoked the Houthis’ threats to Red Sea shipping, promising to utilize substantial military force until objectives are met.
In a vehement social media statement, Trump warned the Houthis about the consequences of their actions, declaring, “YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP… HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!” Furthermore, he emphasized that Iran should not threaten the U.S. or its allies, warning of potential repercussions.
In response, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi rebuffed Trump’s remarks, stating that the U.S. government lacks the authority to dictate Iranian policy and urged an end to perceived U.S. actions that harm the Yemeni people. In conjunction with military actions, the Trump administration’s designation of the Houthis as a terrorist organization prohibits any U.S. engagement with the group.
Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, the Houthis have intensified attacks on ships along their coast, claiming these actions are expressions of solidarity with Palestinians. Reports indicate that they have launched 174 attacks on U.S. warships and 145 on commercial vessels this year, heightening tensions in the region.
