In a tragic event, a man from Chipinge was accused of brutally murdering his wife in a maize field and subsequently burning her belongings nearby. This shocking incident occurred on February 25, 2023, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The suspect had been away from home for 18 days before encountering his wife at a local car wash, where he accused her of infidelity, escalating to a violent assault.
Despite the attempts of their landlord to intervene, the violence continued as the suspect assaulted his wife and even attacked a friend. The assault ultimately led them to a maize field, where the accusations resulted in the wife’s death. In an effort to conceal his crime, he covered her body with a blanket and cloth, later returning home to burn some of her belongings near the scene. Her body was discovered on March 1 by a local resident tending to her maize field.
Following this tragic event, law enforcement apprehended the suspect at Holland Business Centre in Chipinge on March 12. He was subsequently remanded in custody after appearing in court, where he faces murder charges and is scheduled to return to court on March 28.
