The Student Government Association’s 2025 election results were announced, with Faith Geistweidt elected as student body president and Crispus Ankomah as graduate vice president. Key goals include transparency and improving senator retention. The new administration aims to engage students better, utilizing social media as a primary communication tool. Official term starts on May 1, with several other senators elected from various colleges.
The results of the Student Government Association (SGA) 2025 elections were disclosed via live stream on Thursday afternoon, subsequent to Texas Tech’s shutdown on Wednesday. Crispus Ankomah, a graduate student from Ghana, emerged victorious in the graduate vice president race, which was the sole contested executive position this year. Additionally, Faith Geistweidt, a junior majoring in agriculture and applied economics, was elected as the student body president in an uncontested race.
In her inaugural address, Geistweidt emphasized her administration’s commitment to transparency between the SGA and the student body. She aims to utilize social media to effectively communicate the actions and initiatives of the Student Government Association to the students. “Being able to tell students what Student Government Association is doing — whether that’s the Student Senate or on the executive side — is really important for students to know,” Geistweidt remarked.
Geistweidt identified senator retention and recruitment as a major concern, which will be a priority for Internal Vice President-elect Madeline Clark. To increase engagement, Geistweidt suggested that incentives such as early class registration and scholarships might be provided to student senators to enhance their participation.
“I think it all boils down to transparency,” Geistweidt stated. She believes that students need to be aware of initiatives, no matter how small, like the addition of a coffee vending machine, to recognize the impact of the Student Government on their daily lives. Geistweidt and her administration will officially assume office on May 1.
