EPRA Maintains Fuel Prices Amidst International Market Fluctuations

EPRA has announced that fuel prices including Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will remain unchanged from March 15 to April 14, 2025. These prices are Ksh176.58 for Super Petrol, Ksh167.06 for Diesel, and Ksh151.39 for Kerosene. The announcement follows a decrease in international oil prices, providing relief for consumers and motorists alike.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced on Thursday that the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will remain unchanged during the March fuel review period. The retail prices are fixed at Ksh176.58 for Super Petrol, Ksh167.06 for Diesel, and Ksh151.39 for Kerosene. These prices will be effective from March 15 to April 14, 2025.

EPRA confirmed that the stated prices include a 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT), consistent with the Finance Act 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024. Additionally, it was highlighted that the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increased by 1.34 percent, while Diesel rose by 1.41 percent, and Kerosene saw a slight decrease of 1.36 percent.

The regulator pointed out that all petroleum products in Kenya are imported in refined form and are priced based on international market benchmarks. Furthermore, it was noted that transactions in the international market are denominated in United States Dollars, necessitating a currency conversion to Kenyan Shillings for local pricing.

This announcement serves as reassuring news for many Kenyans, especially motorists who had anticipated a possible rise in fuel prices due to prior reports about EPRA’s intentions to impose new charges. Earlier, it was rumored that increases were being considered to assist oil marketing companies and transporters.

The announcement from EPRA reflects a decrease in international oil prices, with the Central Bank of Kenya reporting a drop in Murban oil prices from Ksh9,928.82 per barrel on February 26 to Ksh9,119.75 per barrel on March 6. This reduction is attributed to OPEC+ plans to raise oil output.

In summary, the EPRA has decided to maintain the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene for the upcoming month, providing relief to consumers amidst fluctuating international oil prices. These prices, inclusive of VAT, will remain stable from March 15 to April 14, 2025. The slight increases in imports costs and falling international prices highlight the complexities of fuel pricing in the country.
