Sacramento Funeral Home Accused of Body Mix-Up in Distressing Lawsuit

A distressing incident has emerged from Sacramento, California, where a funeral home is accused of delivering the wrong body to a grieving family. The lawsuit, filed recently, alleges that La Paz Funeral Services mistakenly shipped a stranger’s corpse to the Quintanilla family in El Salvador instead of their deceased relative, Francisco Quintanilla, who died in November.

Francisco Quintanilla, an immigrant from El Salvador, worked hard in the United States to support his wife and three children back home. His family sought the services of La Paz Funeral Services, which claims to facilitate international funeral arrangements and provide necessary documentation. However, attorney Rob Marcereau, representing the Quintanilla family, criticized the funeral home for negligence.

On the day of the funeral, to their horror, Quintanilla’s family discovered a stranger’s body inside the casket. Marcereau stated, “The family planned a beautiful goodbye for him and instead what they got was a nightmare.” The mix-up only worsened when the family contacted La Paz and was instructed to return the incorrect body to the airport without clarity on the whereabouts of their own relative’s body.

After two weeks, La Paz located Quintanilla’s remains. However, upon receiving the body in El Salvador, the family was devastated to find it in a severely decomposed state. The legal action accuses La Paz’s ownership and staff of incompetence in fulfilling their promised services, adversely affecting the family’s final memories of their loved one.

The attorney stated that the Quintanilla family has received no refund for the trauma experienced and their efforts to communicate with La Paz Funeral Services have been unsuccessful, intensifying their distress amidst an already painful time.
