At Juba Teaching Hospital, Tai faced a challenging case involving 37-year-old Achol Deng’s newborn son, who exhibited no signs of life upon birth.
Upon his arrival at the hospital, the infant was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and RDS, prompting immediate intervention. Tai promptly administered oxygen and medication, leading to noticeable recovery of the baby, much to the relief of his mother, who witnessed the attentive care provided in the crowded neonatal ward where multiple mothers were seeking treatment for their infants.
Achol Deng expressed gratitude for Dr. Tai’s efforts, stating, “This Chinese doctor has been treating my baby for 11 days since I was admitted here, and now there is some improvement. Without him, my baby would not be alive.” This precious child is her second; she previously lost her firstborn to an undiagnosed illness.
To aid the recovery of infants suffering from RDS, Tai employed a bulb syringe to clear the baby’s mucus, facilitating easier breathing and feeding. He monitors newborns regularly from Monday to Thursday, assessing their vital signs and adjusting treatments as necessary to promote health.
