Moreover, in December 2023, the State Grid secured rights to undertake another ultra-high-voltage direct current transmission project, aimed at distributing wind and solar power from northeastern Brazil to Brasília and other regions. Cities like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are witnessing an influx of electric buses and vehicles from Chinese manufacturers. Data from the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE) indicate that over 120,000 electric light vehicles were sold in Brazil in the first three quarters of this year—a staggering increase of 113% year-over-year, with eight of the top ten models originating from China. Chinese electric vehicle producer BYD has established a battery production facility in Manaus, Amazonas, marking the first local assembly base for lithium iron phosphate batteries in Brazil. This facility commenced operations in 2020, with a capacity to produce battery modules for 1,000 electric buses annually. Its establishment aids in enhancing the local adoption of green technologies and propels the electrification of public transport, promoting the development of new energy technologies in the local market.
